Amphibians and Reptiles of Blackbird State Forest ~ Ashland Nature Center

Join Herpetologist Jim White on a nocturnal exploration of Blackbird State Forest. Blackbird is an amphibian and reptile hotspot, where numerous species breed in vernal pools known as Delmarva Bays as well as surrounding woodlands. On warm Spring nights, the calls of frogs can be a mesmerizing experience as you wade into the water. Search for a dozen species of frogs, numerous salamanders including the beautiful Spotted and Marbled, and keep an eye out for turtles and snakes. This is a one-of-a-kind nature experience that you will never forget, and one you need to experience for yourself. Jim White and his wife Amy are the authors of the book, "Amphibians and Reptiles of Delmarva". Jim has led trips to this area for decades and is Delaware's authority on these animals.
