Next Generation Land Stewards: Purple Martins Field Trip ~ Ashland Nature Center
You can make a difference in the survival of an entire species of songbird! Purple Martins (Progne subis) are songbirds native to North and South America. Purple Martins rely almost exclusively on human-provided housing east of the Rocky Mountains. They are dependent on us for their survival. With guidance from professional land stewards and environmental educators, this field trip will enable diverse communities to get more involved in local conservation efforts right in our own neighborhoods by replicating successful projects already in existence. We will meet at Ashland Nature Center before departure on a conversational road trip to Camden, DE (Kent County) to take a closer look at how one community has successfully fledged over 200 hatchling purple martins.
This field trip is designed as a hands-on follow-up to the presentation given on May 15, 2025. Led by DelNature Adult Education Team. Van transportation is included.
