Next Generation Land Stewards: Plastic Waste Field Trip ~ Ashland Nature Center

Thursday August 28

Other dates...

4:30 PM  –  5:30 PM

Plastic pollution in Delaware and worldwide has severe environmental impacts, largely driven by the widespread disposal of single-use items like plastic bags, water bottles, and food containers. While plastic is undeniably useful in everyday life—found in cars, homes, shopping, and food and medical packaging—it’s crucial to raise awareness about recycling and the harm of plastic waste in our natural areas by reducing excess and promoting reuse. With guidance from professional land stewards and environmental educators, this field trip will enable diverse communities to get more involved in local conservation efforts right in our own neighborhoods by replicating successful projects already in existence. We will meet at Ashland Nature Center before departure on a short road trip to the factory of Eco-Plastic Products of Delaware in Wilmington to take a closer look at how they have diverted over 158,100 lbs. of plastic waste, a reminder that together, we can turn waste into something meaningful.

This field trip is designed as a hands-on follow-up to the presentation given on July 24, 2025 available through a partnership with Delaware Nature Society and Wild Birds Unlimited, Glen Mills. Led by DelNature Adult Education Team. Van transportation is included.
