Forest Insect Population Biology ~ Abbott's Mill Nature Center

Saturday March 21

10:00 AM  –  12:00 PM

Insects play an essential beneficial role in nearly all our natural ecosystems. However, occasionally an insect population causes extensive tree decline and death. Learn about the five basic principles of population biology and how certain insect species overcome their natural regulating forces resulting in widespread destruction. Find out how a small beetle, no larger than a grain of rice, uses a sophisticated strategy to attack and kill mature loblolly pine trees. Discover why the emerald ash borer has had such a devastating impact on Delaware's ash trees. Led by Michael Valenti, Abbott's Mill Nature Center Site Director.
